DAVE DIAMOND
THE SHARP BOOMERANG MAN:
When we talking bout Dave Diamond what we should know:
Tell
something bout your background and how you came to rockin scene...main reason
that you became interested in bout rockin music...
I have
loved Rock 'n' Roll since the age of 13 as my older brother was heavily into
the music and used to blast Gene Vincent, Billy Fury, Crazy Cavan and Johnny
Burnette & The Rock 'n' Roll Trio from his record player. I was hooked and
just loved the catchy tunes and fantastic dance-able songs.
How you saw
70's revival & on eighties psychobilly boom and what you think bout scene
nowdays.
The bands
of the 1970's were so awesome as without them, none of the music today would
have developed as they kept the scene going...Crazy Cavan, The Flying Saucers,
Matchbox, The Riot Rockers, Rockhouse etc and then the late 70's - early 1980's
with the Rockabilly and bands like The Blue Cats, Levi Dexter and the Rockats,
The Polecats, The Shakin Pyramids, Whirlwind, Stray Cats etc.
Then I was
looking for something different and my friend had The Meteors records (In
Heaven and single The Crazed/Attack of The Zorch Men) and with their unique style
I was hooked and for the next 6 years listened to neo rockabilly and
psychobilly as termed, but still loved all those original bands and singers who
started it all back in the 1950's.
The scene
nowadays is very strong and constantly evolving with many great bands playing
original songs aswell as covering trax from those halcyon days of the 1950's
Do you have any Klub Foot memories to share or Hope club memories.
..The first
gig I went to upstairs at The Hammersmith Klub Foot was on 16th June 1984 and it
was a Saturday night and the first actual main themed night..it was just under
3 months before the first live recording that was used as The Klub Foot volume
1 album (.22/09/84 Batz+ Stingrays, Restless, Thee Milkshakes)...The
Hammersmith Clarendon had events also downstairs at The Broadway...first gig I
attended was The Vibes and The Surfadelics on Friday 3/2/1984 and here I also
saw many bands.. The Vibes, The Milkshakes, Restless, Guana Batz, just tom
mention a few....
The
atmosphere was very high octane and I still have many friends from back then to
this day (37 years later!)
You're one
of those who are so active on many different levels..tell us more bout these
things.
I started
out my own C.D. Label called Diamond Discs snd Sold Out on 4 separate occasions
my debut release Diamond Daddio’s which was a collaboration with Dragan Zac
Zdravkovic a good friend of mine. I have plans to release another C.D later on
this year. I play drums in 2 Rock ‘n Roll bands… The Hi-Fi’s (second album due
out in February on Foot Tapping Records) and Timebomb Allstars (recording
second album later this year on Foot Tapping Records) and I also play in a 60’s
beat rhythm & blues band called Thee Escapees who have our first album due
out this year on Lee Grimshaw’s Spinout Nuggets.
I’m also a
music reviewer for Slap That Bass Reviews on Facebook, where all new band
releases are reviewed and then posted so that music lovers have an idea of the
band songs, interests, inspiration and genre.
If this
aint be enough for one person yet so please tell us more bout your Boomerang
Club. Its main idea and style..how many you have organized already..what bands
you have been there etc..
I run The Boomerang Club in London with my
good friend Andy Edwards and our aim is to bring fantastic bands and D.J’s to
London and give them exclusive gigs. We have had 3 Sold Out nights in 2021 and
have 5 events booked for this year with a total of 15 bands and 10 D.J’s. The
club is very popular with lovers of rock n roll, 60’s rhythm & blues and
1960’s beat music. Headline bands booked so far have been The Small Fakers,
Furious, Thee Scarecrows A.K.A, King Salami and The Cumberland 3, The Deltas
and first for 2022 The Masonics.
