Fans of the Vocal Harmony Groups that developed in the late 40s and 50s in the US know already that there wasa lot more going on than what is nowadays subsumed under „doo-wop“ label. 

DJ, collector and expert DJ Crillenow compiled a new album featuring rare and underground vocal-harmony and doo-wop songs from the late 50sand early 60s that will be released on Stag-O-Lee onApril 7. 

The album, titled „Vocal Group Madness - 14 Bam-A-Lam Vocal Group Rockers from the 50s and 60s“ showcases a selection of tracks that are hard to find rarelycompiled.The album is a compilation of obscure and definitely rocking tracks from the archives of some of the coolestvocal harmony groups of the era, including The Ideals, The Eventuals, The Neons, and LittleAnthony and theImperials. Most of these tracks were previously only available on hard-to-find vinyl records and have beencarefully remastered to bring them to their full sonic potential.

The album features 14 tracks in total, each showcasing the raw power and vocal prowess that made doo-wopand vocal harmony groups such a popular genre during the era. From the driving beat of „Horror of the blackmuseum” by The Nightmares to the soulful harmonies of "Zing wentthe Strings of my Heart”, every track is agem in its ownright.

Tälläiselle doo-wop ummikolle tämä kokoelma avaa aivan uusia näkökulmia. Jo siinäkin suhteessa, että nämä bändit eivät nyt ole ilmeisesti sieltä tunnetuimmista päästä. 

On aina piristävää tulla ulos sieltä omasta "kuuluisasta laatikostaan" ja kokea ja kuulla itselleen aivan uusia säveliä.

Nightmares bändin "Horrors  Of The Black Museum" biisi tuo muikean hymyn, koskapa letkeällä otteellaan saa kummasti hytkymään mukana ja hauskasti taustalaulajat tuovat mieleen Saukin kera Pikku oravien. Nasta biisi.

Eipä kyllä seuraavakaan pikkaisen fifties horror soundein alkava "Batman And Robin" yhtään jalkoihin jää. Thor Ables hoitaa homman kybällä himaan ollen enemmän roll kuin wop. Itse tykkäsi kyllä kovasti heidän tyylistään.

1890- luvun Amerikan afrikkalaisten folk klassikko 

"Shortin'Bread", jonka 1900  James Whitcomb kirjoitti runo muotoon, todistaa Blisters käsittelyssä miten hienosti se taipuukaan doo-wop muotoon. Hyvässä seurassa siis esim Andrew Sisters ja Cramps ovat omine versioineen.

Little Anthonyn poppoon " Shimmy Shimmy Ko Ko Bop" saa koko kehon keinumaan upean naislaulajan rokkaavan otteen mukana. Tämäkin biisi saisi keikoilla porukan bailaamaan hiki päässä.

Tässä tulikin mukavasti toimivan tyylikkäitä sisäänheitto biisejä kokoelmalle, joka ainakin allekirjoittaneelta saa vahvan suosituksen. Tämä täyttää kaikki ne vaateet mitä levyltä voi odottaa, jotta sen antamat elämykset ja tunnot korvaavat siihen käytetyt rahat.
