Mad Marge: It's A Mad, Mad World

I always have liked bout "behind scene stories", "tails bout songs", "campfire stories as they used to do on those old school cowboy days on wild west", etc. 

So I was so greatful and suprised when Mad Marge wanted to give few words bout their new album before I doing my review. Would be so cool if other groups could do same way on future too😉👍🔝

" It’s a Mad, Mad World is the result of old and new sounds coming together to create an album that is reminiscent of The Stonecutters but is something special and all it’s own. These recordings started with the first few songs we wrote, ‘Electric Love’, ‘Moody Blue’, and ‘Second Time Around’. I knew we had something special after Matt wrote the riff for ‘Electric Love’ and I couldn’t get it out of my head! I hadn’t written lyrics for music in years, and that song really helped me settle in. ‘Second Time Around’ was tracked next and the groove of that song makes it one of my favorites. The lyrics were a different approach for me, but that’s really the whole point of the song. Those tracks were too good to keep to ourselves, so we released them digitally as an EP in early 2022. We continued writing and tracking as we did, evolving along the way. ‘Black Phillip’ was the trickiest of them all. Each piece felt “off” when we were tracking, but once it all came together it ended up being one of our favorites on the album. I still watch ‘The Witch’ often and think about cool lines or different lyrics that might fit, maybe it could be one of those songs where the lyrics are different live. You know it will be about the movies, but only I get to know which set of lyrics I’ll sing live. Ha!

The album cover is symbolic in its set of 3 planets, which is representative of multiple things in the Mad Marge universe. The third album being the obvious one. We looked at other options for cover art, but we kept coming back to that one. It felt right. Which is pretty much how make decisions, write songs, and live our lives. It’s got to feel right, and this album gives us all the feels."

Wolf Brigade - Vahva metallinen rumpu täsmätulitus kutsuu kuulijat instrumentaalisesti näihin Mad Margen uutta tulemista juhlistaviin kolmannen albumin bileisiin. 

Electric Love - Pikkaisen enemmän psychobilly biisi todistaa vahvasti miten Mad Margen ääni kyllä sopii hyvin tälläiseen nopeaan billy hurjasteluun. Vanhat Stonecutters ukot Mateo Romero - kitara sekä Edgar Villareal - basso ovat saaneet uutena mukaan Brent Ventimiglia rumpalin. Tällä triolla soitto toimii kyllä viimeisen päälle isolla kädellä ja tyylillä.

"Second Time Around" - Pikkaisen "hitaampi" kuin avausbiisi, mutta Mad Margen mittarilla ei kuitenkaan päästä hiturista puhumaan. Rumpujen ja basson jytkytys erittäin iskevää ja toimivaa tällä biisillä.

"Moody Blue" - Edgarin släppäily pääse parrasvaloihin, eikä hiki ainakaan pääse laskemaan tämän biisin tanssimisen tahdissa.

"In My Head" - Ettei vaan pääsisi paikat kylmenemään, niin Mad Marge ryhmittymä pitää vauhdin tasaisen kovana. Rumpali Brent saa kyllä pistellä läpi julkaisun parastaan, että pysyy mukana kovassa tahdissa. Hän kuitenkin näyttää osamistaan korkealla tasolla napaten samalla kitaristi Mateon mukaan ilotulitukseen.

"The Keeper" - Keskitempoinen, liian junnaava biisi.

"Black Philip" - aika messevällä tatsilla kulkee tämä nopea slap bass psychobilly. Nousee levyn kärkeen.

"Riding High" - jestas miten lähtee taas korkealta ja kovaa rumpujen ja kontrabasson yhteistyö. Ei ihme, että rummuissa on potkua. Onhan Brent trashmetal guru bändin  Trashquats jäseniä. Eli kannuista lähtee oikeasti vieläkin rajumpaa sanomaa tarvittaessa.

"Little Green Men" - mitä onko Mad Marge kuunnelut salaa Erkki Tuomiojan puheita vai mistä nuo pienet vihreät miehet tulevat😯🤭 Marge jopa uhkailee niiden tulevan hakemaan meidät, hui..levyn nopein, ei jää kyllä jalkoihin.

"Weight Of The World" - raskas painolasti laskeutuu yllemme levyn loppuun. Antaen samalla pulssin hivenen laskeutua ja hien tasaantua tiukan kreisi bailaamisen jäljiltä...oiva laskeutuminen hiljaisuuteen, ehtii jo miettimään levyn lopuksi. Niin sitä luulisi, heh. Sillä tuo nelikko ei vielä malttanut, vaan otti loppuun kunnon ylinopeudet valotolppien välkkyessä.

Onnistunut paluu ainakin tämän levyn näytön perusteella. Jos jotain haluaa rutista, niin olisin kaivannut joukkoon 2-3 vähän erilaista biisiä, niin tästä olisi saanut hiottua vieläkin kovemman levyn.

H
