DUKES OF TIJUANA
DUKES OF TIJUANA
They are one of most interesting bands on nowdays. Dukes Of Tijuana brings Old School to 2025. Good sounding melodic modern rockabilly with touch of psychobilly.
-How you became into rockin scene on your youth days?
Chris, Grischa and me grew up in the 80s, we are part of the rockin scene since then. Paddy is much younger, but his father is our age, and also part of the rockin scene since the 80s, therefore Paddy is part of it since the cradle.
-Tell your backgrounds before DOT..your earlier bands and how some of you moved to Germany...etc...
We all grew up in Germany, but Paddy's father is from Wales. Paddy is bilingual, but grew up in Germany.
We all played in many bands, too many to list here, but Grischa is known for playing with Demented are Go. Chris and me played with Dave Phillips, Paddy with Rusty Robots, and we all played together with Sandy and the Wild Wombats at some point. I formed Sandy and the Wild Wombats in 2014.
-When you saw the light and wanted to start new band..on where that happened, how you found name to your band..why just Mexico connection?
We were formed during the pandemic and just got together to have some fun and play some songs we liked, we tried some songs that I had written, and after jamming around with them and Paddy writing the lyrics to them, that became our first album.
We found out they have German beer and German dustbins in Tijuana, by looking at a picture Grischa had taken in Tijuana.
That was reason enough for us to call ourselves the Dukes of Tijuana.
-Did you know straight away what kind of sound should be on DOT...if someone on street asking bout your band and bout its sound..what you answering ?
As I pointed out before, we just jammed over a bunch of songs I wrote, our style was a happy accident. It's a mix out of music we like.
The answer would be:
We are a Rock'n'Roll Band, we play Rock'n'Roll.
-2022 you got record deal with Crazy Love Records..how that came??
-"Nymphomaniac" was big suprise how good it was...tell us more bout doing it..was there any problems on studio..how you build up your own songs and maybe choosing covers?
We asked Guido from Crazy Love Records and he liked it.
We recorded the basics together in a friend's home recording studio in one day, and then mixed it in another studio and did some overdubs, there was no problem, we have all recorded many albums over the years, so we knew what we were doing.
It was clear from the start we will only put out our own songs, no covers, we play 2 or 3 covers live sometimes, but we mostly play only originals.
-Was there any interesting from media..what kind of reviews you got?
Luckily all reviews were surprisingly good .
-On what kind of places you doing gigs..have you done any tours with other bands..etc?
We play everywhere, clubs, festivals, weekenders, alldayers, etc.. We play Rockabilly and Psychobilly events.
So far we have been on tour with the Long Tall Texans and the Delta Bombers.
-Any special, funny, scary happenings from roads/hotels to gigs?
We played a funeral, and found out the hard way that our song "Hellride" might not have been the best choice of material for the event...
-Young/new band that we should check out?
Dukes of Tijuana, hahaha.
Sadly, I don't know a young band at the moment .
-Then out of blue on 2024 your second album came out and it a really blowed my mind how great it was..now you did it for legend himself in other words to Alan Wilson and his Western Star label..how it was work with him...please pick up 3 songs from that great album and tell more bout em ideas and feelings?
To work with Alan Wilson was just perfect, he is a great producer, the best I ever worked with. He is a super nice guy, a great musician and songwriter, and he understands what we want without even speaking about it.
It was a great experience.
We will do it again. We are already booked in Alan's studio to record album No. 3.
I can't take 3 songs out of that album, as they are all special to me. We play them all live, and every song has its history.
-How things have went after second album..more media intrest, more gigs etc..what you have done?
There is a lot of interest in the band, we get many offers to play. That was the case from the beginning, we have played many big festivals already, like Psychobilly Meeting Pineda, Bedlam Breakout, International Rock'n'Roll Meeting Eindhoven, etc... and sure, the offers got even more with the 2nd album, but due to all of us playing in other bands, and Grischa playing with Demented are Go, we can only do very few gigs a year .
-At last you coming to Finland on April. Thankx to Ugli Bugli crew they booked for their OLAF GOES PSYCHO second festival near to Russian boder. Did you saw that its sold out now...what you thinking bout all this?
It is a dream come true, we can't wait to come to Finland.
-What we can expect bout your show?
High-energy Rock'n'Roll.
If you like the records, you will love the live show, we will have fun.
-If DOT could be an building what kind of it would be? How bout song wise then?
DOT will always develop, and that is the good thing about it.
Every record will be different, but it will always be Rock'n'Roll and it will always be honest and original.
-Famous last words?
Thanks to everybody who bought one of our albums, and to everybody who comes to live shows.
You are the rocking scene folks, you are important. Without you, all this wouldn't be possible.
Thank you *all* !!.
